South Dakota federal prosecutors collect more than $9.5 million in fiscal year 2025

The U.S. attorney’s office for the District of South Dakota brought in more than $9.5 million in fiscal year 2025 through fines, restitution, forfeitures and other enforcement efforts, according to U.S. Attorney Ron Parsons.

In total, the office collected just over $9.5 million and helped recover another $16.7 million working with other U.S. attorneys’ offices and Department of Justice partners.

The majority of money, about $8.9 million, came from criminal cases, with roughly $8.8 million returned directly to crime victims. The rest went into the Crime Victims Fund, which helps cover things like medical bills, lost wages, counseling and funeral costs.

The office also handled a large amount of asset forfeiture, collecting more than $65 million with help from partner agencies. Those funds go into a federal forfeiture fund that supports victims and law enforcement efforts.

Parsons credited attorneys and staff for holding offenders accountable and working to recover money for victims and taxpayers. He said collecting restitution and federal debts will continue to be a top priority.
