Police advise alternative delivery methods as porch pirates prey on holiday spirit

Police advise alternative delivery methods as porch pirates prey on holiday spirit

A family in Killeen just had nearly a thousand dollars worth of presents stolen off their porch.

“He kind of already knows that he saw them being dropped off. And he just walks up the driveway, walks up the sidewalk to the house and he picks up our stuff and walks away,” says Killeen resident, Rick Gibbons.

Gibbons is furious after more than $600 worth of gifts were swiped in broad daylight.

“One of them was an airline kit, the other was a nice perfume for the wife, and she got me the Raybans META glasses that cost 3-400 dollars,” he explains.

And unfortunately, he’s already made peace with the idea that his gifts have been pawned off. But that didn’t stop him from trying to track down the culprit.

And he did, but when it was time to hand him off to authorities, “Twice. Told them I found him, send an officer over here and we can get this figured out. They told me they didn’t have anyone available to send at the time.”

In Temple, the police department posts yearly about how to protect your presents as porch pirates prey on people wrapped in holiday spirit.

“The biggest piece of advice is to not have items delivered if you’re not going to be home. Either have them delivered to work or if it’s from Amazon, have it delivered to the warehouse, says Temple police officer, Cody Close.
