The South Dakota Highway Patrol has announced that sobriety checkpoints will be conducted in 17 counties throughout November. The counties include Bennett, Brule, Codington, Davison, Hanson, Jones, Lake, Lawrence, Lincoln, Meade, Moody, Pennington, Roberts, Sanborn, Spink, Walworth, and Yankton.
These monthly checkpoints are designed to discourage impaired driving. They are funded by the South Dakota Office of Highway Safety and conducted with the help of local law enforcement agencies.
Officials remind drivers that impaired driving is always a bad idea, regardless of whether a checkpoint is planned in their county. Those drinking are urged to designate a sober driver or use commercial or public transportation.
Both the Office of Highway Safety and the Highway Patrol are the South Dakota Department of Public Safety agencies.
