South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley celebrates the graduation of 48 new law enforcement recruits on Friday, November 15. The graduates who completed the Basic Law Enforcement training program in Pierre are now ready to serve their respective departments and communities.
“These recruits are now ready to serve their departments and communities,” said Attorney General Jackley. “Thank you to them and their course instructors for their efforts.”
The 48 recruits represent 34 different state and local law enforcement agencies and completed 13 weeks of intensive training, totaling 520 hours of coursework. This certification course is mandatory for students to become fully qualified law enforcement officers in South Dakota.
The comprehensive training program included instruction in the law, arrest control tactics, firearms, vehicle handling, and criminal investigations. The program was taught by full-time staff from the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation and adjunct instructors from law enforcement agencies across the state.
The graduation ceremony took place at 10 a.m. at the George S. Mickelson Criminal Justice Center in Pierre.
